St. Nicholas was a bishop of Myra, in Lycia (modern Turkey) When he died around the year 340, he was buried in his cathedral. In 1087, most of his bones were stolen by sailors from Bari and brought back to their city. They remain there in the crypt of the church of St. Nicholas. A few years later, soldiers from Venice stopped in Myra and stole the rest of his relics. They are now in the church of S. Nicolo on the Lido in Venice. We have relics of St. Nicholas from both cities in our Shrine of All Saints. Our most recent acquisition is a reliquary which contains part of one of his bones and part of the original coffin in which his bones were taken to Bari. The relics were certified by Archbishop Nicodemo of Bari.
